The booklet explains the principles of pesticides and their safe application. It follows modern ideas of pesticide use, combined with effective traditional means of pest control. It elaborates on the dangers of pesticides, and gives ample attention to the safe use of them.
First is explained what pesticides are, how they are categorised and what their advantages and disadvantages are. Attention is given to the aims of their use and how that aim correlates with applying them. Spraying is discussed, as well as types of sprayers and nozzles, dosage and calibration and maintenance of equipment.
Much attention is paid to human and environmental hazards of pesticides. Farmers should by all means prevent accidents, by strictly following the directions and applying fierce safety measures.
One appendix is about the FAO International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and Use of Pesticides. The second appendix is the index of almost 700 active ingredients of pesticides and their characteristics. Recommended literature and a list of useful addresses complete the publication.
