Knowledge sharing for sustainable agriculture

The handbook Agroforestry describes the essential elements of agroforestry from some basic principles to their practical application within local farming systems. It looks at the benefits but also pays attention to the difficulties of introducing this approach to farmers who have to be convinced that a change in land use will be beneficial. The agroforestry approach centres on countering the degradation of land caused by deforestation. While the handbook does not provide a recipe for agroforestry interventions, it does aim to help the reader adapt specific agroforestry applications to local conditions by making good use of trees that have proven their usefulness locally. An extensive appendix lists plants that can be useful in agroforestry systems and their characteristics
